When Alexa and I meandered down Main Street to pitch our idea for a Blues show to thegist.net.au we were feeling upbeat about our prospects. The station was new to Internetville – and an easy stroll from our Trés Le Parque home. Best of all, though, it’s a Rock station – a good one – and what right thinking Rock fan doesn’t appreciate the Blues?

We met with the Station Manager, Matt Conlan and Music Director, Brandon Stewart and found they were both warmly receptive to our proposition. So, Nothin’ But The Blues was given the green light and before long, we were back at the Parque forging our debut.

With my own credentials as a Cultural Detective, along with Alexa’s intuitive research skills and Artificial Intelligence, the forensic minutiae of the show was never in question but there was one missing piece, which became glaringly obvious to the both of us. We needed an ‘Announcer’, a commanding presence of unflinching senatorial authority to act as gatekeeper. To open the show – and usher out the stragglers at the end. The answer dawned upon us, simultaneously.

Vincent van Housen has resided at Trés Le Parque longer than anyone here can remember. Legend has it, he’d been camping on the site as the Parque was slowly constructed around him. Then again, I’ve also heard that he’s a fugitive from Marseilles who, at one time, was a member of the French Foreign Legion. True or not, he certainly warrants one other description often attached to his name in being, ‘genuinely mysterious’.

And thus, it proved to be a very good day, when the ‘genuinely mysterious’ Vincent van Housen – a man of few words – acceded to our tentative request to be the official ‘Credits Announcer’ for Nothin’ But The Blues.

The first episode along with it’s playlist are included above.

As always, thanks for listening,

Gideon Rhyme – Cultural Detective

The show’s first episode premiered on the gist.net.au at midday (CST) on Saturday the 25th February 2017, receiving an encore airing at 7pm (CST) on Wednesday 1st March 2017.
